Abstract:
Quantum Mechanics tells us, that particles (neutrons, atoms, molecules)
can behave like waves, consequently wave optics techniques can be applied
to particle optics. The fundamental principles of matter wave optics with
atoms and molecules and their applications in fundamental and applied
research will be discussed in the framework of selected experiments.
In the future nanofabrication technology will allow us to miniaturise
and integrate atom optical elements into matter wave quantum circuits
which can be similar to mesoscopic quantum electronics. Experiments with
a first micro fabricated Atom Chip will be discussed.
