Abstract:
The initially positive experimental reports on the possible discovery of the theta^+ pentaquark have motivated several groups to look for pentaquark states in lattice QCD. We present a pedagogical introduction to lattice hadron spectroscopy with emphasis on the pitfalls that such calculations may have in identifying resonance states such as the theta^+. After presenting the different methods to detect a resonance signal used by several groups, we discuss possible resasons for the lack of consensus in the interpretation of the results obtained in quenched lattice QCD calculations.
