Abstract:
Effective Field Theories allow one to calculate scattering amplitudes
in QCD at low energy with high precision. I review the method
and discuss a recent prediction of the pipi scattering lengths
in this framework. These predictions may be confronted with
preliminary data from the E865 experiment at Brookhaven, which beautifully
confirm the Gell-Mann-Oakes-Renner picture of spontaneous chiral symmetry
breaking.
