Abstract:
With the discovery six years ago of the first planet orbiting another
sun-like star our ideas about planet formation have been put to a
severe tests. While we have discovered the vast diversity of existing
planetary systems, a theoretical framework in which to understand both
our solar system and these newly discovered objects is still lacking.
This talk will summarize our current understanding and highlight the
difficulties encountered.
