Abstract:
Neutrinos are elusive particles: studying them requires intense sources and massive detectors. The observation of flavour oscillations established that neutrinos have non-zero, though extremely small, masses. Most oscillation parameters are now known to the percent level, but two central questions remain open: the ordering of the neutrino masses, and the value of the charge-parity violating phase, a potential source of matter-antimatter asymmetry in the leptonic sector. In this colloquium I will review the status of current oscillation experiments and discuss where the field is heading, projecting the sensitivity that the next-generation experiments, now under construction, will bring to these open questions.
