Abstract:
We will present the first measurement of the alpha particle charge
radius from laser spectroscopy of the muonic helium ion. The obtained
radius represents a benchmark for nuclear theories. Combined with laser
spectroscopy of regular He-ions it will lead also to advanced tests of
bound-state QED. The measurement and its impact will be presented in
the larger context of the proton radius puzzle.
