Abstract:
With each increase in accelerator energy, one may ask whether there could
be any risk associated with new phenomena that might be revealed. In recent
months, the start of LHC operations has raised this question to the
attention
of the general public. Here, I review how any basis for such safety concerns
can be excluced by empirical reasoning based on established experimental
facts.
