Abstract:
On July 4, 2012, the LHC experiments ATLAS and CMS announced the discovery
of a new particle. After its discovery the properties of the particle have
to be determined in order to establish experimentally if it is really the
Higgs boson, i.e. the particle responsible for the creation of particle
masses without violating gauge principles. I will review in this talk the
program of the experimental verification of the Higgs mechanism at the
LHC: the determination of the Higgs boson couplings to the other Standard
Model (SM) particles, the determination of the spin and CP quantum numbers
of the newly discovered particle, and, finally, the determination of the
Higgs self-couplings. The determination of the Higgs boson properties will
also reveal if it is the Higgs particle of the SM or the one of a
(possibly extended) Higgs sector of beyond the SM physics.
