Abstract:
The unification of quantum mechanics and Einstein's general relativity
into a consistent theory of quantum gravity, which may also lead to a
unification of space-time and matter at the Planck scale, is probably
the greatest challenge facing 21th century theoretical physics. In this
talk I will review the problems and (some of) the existing ansätze for
their solution in an introductory manner.
